Naruto manga question, SPOILER ALERT!?

Well in the earlier chapters/episodes it was said Danzo competed with the Third Hokage for the title of Hokage and lost. Been as that was before Kakashi was even born (judging that Kakashi and Obito are the same age) or were of young age. I don't think that'd be possible.
