Bullet expansion testing?

what would you suggest for me to test my 22lr hollow point for expansion in the woods? will a regular bottle of water mixed with lots of clothe work if i shoot at the cap and replace the cap and water after every shot? to make it clear how far will a 22lr travel into water and what will it take to stop the bullet without needing big jugs of water
