Random question... Was Bruce Ismay right to get on a lifeboat while the Titanic was sinking?
I know this is totally random but I was just thinking about this today. I think he was the managing director of the white star line (correct me if I'm wrong) While most of the more prominent men involved with the building or running of the Titanic (Thomas Andrews, the ships engineer, Captain Smith etc) went down with the ship, Ismay got onto a life boat and survived. Many people believed that this was cowardly, that by doing this he was sacrificing the life of someone else when he should've stayed aboard. Ismay claimed that there were no women and children near the lifeboat, so just before it was lowered he jumped in. He was heavily criticized for it. I was just wondering what you would've done in his position?
